1996 – The Year Alternative Rock Died a Messy, Forgettable Death

Some phenomenal hindsight of grunge, alternative rock, and how it became the very thing it stood against. I remember this year vividly. I was 15, at the height of my angst, and this caused me not only to re-live the period but it also provided a unique subtext I was completely oblivious to. On the radio, Goo Goo Dolls’ “Name” bled into Tonic’s “If You Could Only See” into Dishwalla’s “Counting Blue Cars” into The Verve Pipe’s “The Freshmen” into Matchbox Twenty’s “Push” in a watery bouillabaisse of quiet-loud-quiet song structures and sad-bro earnestness. This has to be the most…

Musical  Conundrum

I really want to buy these two albums. I want the artists to get one more purchase and show that I enjoy their work. Both of these albums are free to listen to with Amazon Prime. I don’t normally listen to anything not streaming. I listen to the music I own, but usually when purchasing I don’t even open them. I put them on the shelf (or I purchase LP and store it). I am purchasing with gift card credits but still… I can use that $20 for something else. What to do?? How about you buy them! Echosmith is…

Music: Girl Talk

I searched all my archives, but it doesn’t appear that I had previously posted this anywhere here. It’s not exactly hot off the presses but if you haven’t heard it, check it out: It is phenomenal, and after mentioning it to someone on fb this evening I was reinvigorated by it. The iPad can’t deal with zip files so I couldn’t download it locally but it’s on my google music (play) so streaming it down. Gotta love the audio background ability they finally added to ios. Totally grooving out to it and going to listen more tomorrow. I believe it…

The Viking Kittens Return!

Ok, so maybe they were only just sleeping but here they are: This is an oldie.  I remember this being one of the first “viral” media pieces out there.  Before shockwave/flash there wasn’t much for embedable media.  There was a picture here or there, but high density media was avoided to prevent isolating users with slower computers. Flash changed that and allowed everyone to see the same thing at the same time (upon visiting the site).  In any case I had sucked this down a while back and recently found it again while cleaning up the FTP.  I hope you enjoy…

I found this from Feb 2008

It was topical at the time, apparently I wrote it up into a txt file and then just uploaded to my server. I recently found it. —————————————- [Feb 2008] —————————————- Everything I’ve looked up on the internet says there is no meaning to Clutch’s song 10001110101. Even the singer says it means nothing in an interview, that some people are disappointed – like they’re looking for some secret code or something. In any case I think it’s a secret plug because of what I found. I was curious because right after he says 10001110101 is “periodic table”. That got me…

Pandora RSS Feeds

I’m going to be adding my Pandora stuff to the Music page. Google Music Beta

I’m enjoying google music so far. I’ve been using Amazon Cloud in paralell for comparison and Google Music is already better – primarily because they’ve yet to mention a storage limit. I installed the music uploader and it has both iTunes and WMPlayer integration – which appears to pull from the music library, I’m still not sure if it’s pulling it in my sort order of the playlist in iTunes or alphabetical, or other. The first couple tracks it added were all recently added to iTunes – but then it’s grabbing them seemingly from all over the library. I am…
